Andy Utech teaches acting at the Tokyo Film Center School of Arts and works as a freelance vocal coach for Japanese actors performing in English. He holds an MFA in Asian Performance from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the aptly named BS in Theatre from Northwestern University. He took his first stage combat class in 1986 and has since studied and taught in the United States and Japan. He directed productions of the family musical Yamabiko Monogatari (Tales of the Echo) in both English and Japanese for tours in Japan, Korea, and the US. He can occasionally be spotted acting on stage, television or films shot in Japan and contributed vocal coaching to actors in The Last Samurai, Batman Begins, Memoirs of a Geisha, Letters from Iwo Jima, and Silk.
