Kara Penrose is an instructor, fight director, and stage combatant based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is recognized as an Associate Instructor of Theatrical Combat with Dueling Arts International. As an instructor and director she has both taught and choreographed for ages ranging from 10 years old through adults. As a stage combatant, she has been active since her recognition by DAI in 2009.
Originally from California, Kara graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Theatre from California State University East Bay. While in the Bay Area she trained extensively with Full Instructor Dave Maier and participated as a teacher’s assistant at Berkeley Repertory Theatre and Dueling Arts San Francisco. Additionally, she assisted Master Teacher Gregory Hoffman in classes at the University of the Pacific and American Conservatory Theatre’s MFA program and has received individual training with Master Teacher DC Wright.
Kara has directed fights in California, Colorado, and Wisconsin. Her fight directing credits include: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Three Musketeers, Cyrano de Bergerac, Treasure Island, Bat Boy, Extremities, and Oleanna.
