Karl Ramsey works as an actor, teacher, and fight director. Since his initiation in the summer of 1999, he has worked closely and continually with Dueling Arts International (DAI) founder Gregory Hoffman.
Recognized as an instructor in 2002, he has been teaching at national theatrical combat workshops and with professional training programs such as San Francisco Opera and American Conservatory Theatre, among others. He has directed for both stage and screen in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Los Angeles. He has received distinguished recognition for his performance and skills as a fight director for theater and film. The first president of the reimagined not for profit DAI, he now serves as an advisor and board chairman.
Karl Ramsey is a member of Screen Actors Guild (SAG), Actors Equity Association (AEA), a lifetime member of The Actors Network, and was also once recognized as an advanced actor-combatant by the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD). He has studied a variety of martial arts, currently occupied with Kali, and reached the brown belt ranking in Enshin Karate. His acting credits include projects for theater, improv and sketch comedy, film, television, commercial, and voice-over. He contributed principal narration for DAI Entertainment’s Instructional Training Video Series on Theatrical Swordfighting, and has performed on stage and in film in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado, as well as the Bennett Theatre Lab professional training program, and has completed improvisation training programs with The Groundlings and Bay Area Theatresports.
