Matt Franta is an actor, stunt performer, fight director, and Full Instructor with Dueling Arts International. His work has been seen across the country, consisting of more than 250 theatre, film, television, and electronic media productions. New York City credits include the Off-Broadway productions The Video Games, Eco Village, We Are The Tigers, and safeword. Regional companies he has worked with include the world-renowned Guthrie Theater, the Children’s Theatre Company, the Minnesota Opera, and the National Theatre for Children. Some of Matt’s favorite projects have been directing fights for events like the LA Haunted Hayride and The Razzie Awards, and bringing the world of Westeros to life, playing a sword-for-hire mercenary in HBO’s Bleed for the Throne immersive experience at the 2019 SXSW Festival

As a teaching artist, Matt has taught stage combat across the U.S. and Canada with organizations such as the Society of American Fight Directors, the International Order of the Sword & Pen, and Dueling Arts International. He currently teaches stage combat at AMDA – College of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. 

Matt holds a B.A in Drama/Speech from Clarke University in Dubuque, IA, and is a graduate of the International Stunt School in Seattle. With over 25 years of training in the martial arts, Matt holds the rank of black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido, with additional experience in Karate, Judo, fencing, wrestling, and kickboxing. He is also the founder of the Los Angeles Bartitsu Club.
